Gye Baek (spoiler)

>> Wednesday, August 3, 2011

MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, South Korea) celebrates its 50th anniversary with the release of "Gye Baek", a period drama about General Gye Baek

it is known to be an epic production

and seriously they have made a statement with this 50th anniversary release - it's BIG

un-or-fortunately having a good mix of West n East media exposure here, it took me a long time to get used to the drama's opening soundtrack cos to me it's a Braveheart-Enya-Pirates-of-the-Carribbean rip-off. Not only the soundtrack, its opening war scene was REALLY a Braveheart rip-off! Camera angle, character positioning, fight scenes..what more?! traces of the movie can be seen too, no matter how they tried to hide it in other scenes. It's so weird listening to Western soundtrack rip-off in an Asian drama

watching a bit more, i can't help but to feel "Western", almost nothing Eastern about it

so erm..why is the plot so Dong Yi?!! aaargh..i'm spoiled for choices!!! XD

but the other hand i'm proud that finally the East has, to me, gone on par with the West. Wat's even more SUGE was that the scenes are so "movie" that i was asking myself, "IS this REALLY a DRAMA i'm watching?!!!"

a strong cast (AND MY FAV CHO JAE HYUN IN IT!!!), great costumes, dedication and commitment from everyone from the finest details to the epicness of it in making this production a success
